What is ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis)?
ALS disease, known as Motor Neuron Disease, weakness, muscle wasting and related breathing problem. Here, it is a neurological disease that is not under treatment and progresses a little more every day.
ALS disease comes from the loss of neurons in the central system, in the part of the spinal cord and brain stem. It is more common in 40-50 years old.
It is estimated that there are approximately 8,000 ALS patients in our country. In the later stages of the disease, patients need the care and support of others to continue their lives. The care of ALS patients has often been reviewed by their spouses, children and other relatives.
The biggest problem is that patients who have not had close child care experience before, lack sufficient-correct information and professional care, and they are alone.
Therefore, ALS disease does not significantly affect not only the patient but also the caregivers in physical, emotional and economic aspects.
Sabanci Foundation Grant Program
Within the scope of ALS – MNH Association and Home Care Association jointly carried out with the project “It is not enough to live, I need to live, it is necessary to live”, it is aimed to increase the quality of life by providing medical and social support to ALS patients and their family members, and at the same time to create social awareness about ALS disease.
The project is the first study in home care and ALS in Turkey.
Within the scope of education services, ALS training continues in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Adana, Mersin, Antalya and Bursa provinces.
This is a comprehensive education offered to patients and their relatives diagnosed with Alzheimer’s that improves the quality of life.
ALS disease is a neurological muscle disease, and the training comprises the methods of coping with problems and raising awareness of the family.
This is the type of training given in order to increase the service quality of caregivers to whom we entrust a member of our family.
Within the scope of this training, the training support is given particularly with regard to baby care (bathing, massage, nutrition, sleep, room arrangement, etc.)
